4 goalkeepers Barcelona should consider signing as Marc-Andre ter Stegen replacements
As Marc-André ter Stegen will not be available to play for Barcelona for the remainder of the 2024/25 season due to a problematic knee injury, the club is actively looking for his other replacements. Here are four goalkeepers they could target instead.
- Keylor Navas
The veteran Costa Rican ‘goalie’ is now a free agent having departed from PSG in Summer. A goalkeeper known for his speed and good reflexes, Navas has shown what he is capable of while at Real Madrid and PSG. He has that productive spirit and that is what makes him economically viable for Barcelona as he will ease out the burden of keeping goal for the period they have remaining. - Wojciech Szczesny
Despite retiring recently, Szczesny has come out and stated that he still possesses the capability to perform at the highest levels envisioned. Having been a stalwart for praise for Juventus and Poland, he is likely to be lured to return for such a big club as Barcelona. He would fit well in this team considering that he knows how to raise his game during crunch matches, making it an ideal short-term fix. - Guillaume Restes
At the tender age of 19, the first-choice goalkeeper of Toulouse is already considered as one of the most promising keepers in France. Barcelona are willing to spend a total cost of €20 million with add-ons to sign Restes in January. He is a forward-looking player investment, and has the potential of becoming the number one for Barcelona, hence if the club wants to extend its horizons, he is a tactical option. - Álvaro Vallés
27-year-old Vallés is currently involved in a contract dispute with Las Palmas, making it possible for him to join other clubs at a cheaper price. Even though he has been sidelined out of his professional team, the player managed to put on stunning displays prior to the fallout. This could be a wise, inexpensive move by Barcelona especially how their finances are at the moment.
These four goalkeepers present varying advantages—whether it’s experience, short-term stability, or long-term potential—and Barcelona will need to weigh their immediate and future needs carefully.
